I have read several blogs on the “buzz” – some relating it to food and other things, and some giving insights on how to keep us, bees, buzzing. I have to admit that Rosen’s Anatomy of the Buzz Revisited had already inspired “us” during the PRSP Grand Prix competition. If you have at least read the first parts of the book, you will notice something familiar that we employed in our tactics – but that is for you to find out.
I won’t be talking about that thing that we did, but I will instead talk about the makings of Read the rest of this entry »
Pages to Fingers

But what is the main reason why social media became a huge hit to the extent of making a country rally over the shutting-down of the internet? I won’t be talking about anything political or radical in this post, but instead, I will talk about how social media, aside from turning the pyramid upside-down, turned pages to fingers.

Jack Dorsey is the Executive Chairman and founder of the social platform Twitter. If you are not part of the nest yet, Twitter is a social platform where you can post status updates by the minute or even by the second in 140 characters. Unlike Facebook which is getting so much complicated, Twitter remains Read the rest of this entry »
Making Out with the Crowd
Posted: October 6, 2011 | Author: ivanaabiog | Filed under: Organizational Communication, Social Media | Tags: Crowdder, Lowe Worldwide, OrCom 152, Organizational Communication, Social Media, thought leaders, UP Manila | 1 Comment »I am publishing a post on this (again) because my previous blog met an accident. HAHA So let us talk about…making out – social media style.
I am sure that most organizations are already aware that with the increasing influence of social media in the society, it easier to get the thoughts of your audience even if you do not ask for them. Some people may provide gibberish thoughts on your products, some may provide suggestions and some…well, may just give you sweet-nothings. The use of social media definitely has Read the rest of this entry »
The Real “Deal”

Recently, I got addicted to this new thing on the internet. No, it is not online shopping nor is it peer to peer sharing (which is “so last year” HAHA) but it is scanning through “deals” sites, looking for “deals” and things that would make life…cheaper.
What’s the deal with Deals?
There are various sites that offer “deals” from different businesses. These deals are like groupons (group coupons) which means the more friends you get to buy the deal with you, then the cheaper you can Read the rest of this entry »

Love-Hate the New Look: The Ever-changing Facebook Interface
Posted: September 21, 2011 | Author: ivanaabiog | Filed under: Organizational Communication, Social Media | Tags: facebook, new interface, OrCom 152, Organizational Communication, UP Manila | 4 Comments »When I checked my facebook account this morning, there was nothing unusual really – just the interface I have grown with for the past… 3, 4, 6 months? I do not really know how long it has been since facebook changed its look but surely, it has changed for five or more times already over the years, and today has been another one of those days.
So this is what the new facebook homepage looks like – a three column almost cluttered page. And yes, at one point I was dumb enough to be looking for the status box because I thought Read the rest of this entry »
Dig Deep: Social Media in PR campaigns
Posted: September 7, 2011 | Author: ivanaabiog | Filed under: Organizational Communication, Personal, Social Media | Tags: OrCom 152, Organizational Communication, PR campaign, PRSP Grand Prix, UP Manila | Leave a comment »September 4 was the most amazing weekend in my college life. Our team was given the chance to present our PR campaign in the PRSP Grand Prix Finals. After weeks of sleepless nights, the presentation turned out really satisfying.
Let me get straight to how this weekend ended – we did not place. Yes, no medals and awards whatsoever, but to me, it was one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. But I am reserving all my lamentations for my personal blog and the whole point of this post is for me to give some thoughts Read the rest of this entry »
Let’s go to Workplace 2.0
Posted: September 6, 2011 | Author: ivanaabiog | Filed under: Organizational Communication, Social Media | Tags: OrCom 152, Organizational Communication, UP Manila | 1 Comment »Since my OrCom 101 days, the concept of “division of labor” and the term “specialization” has been everywhere in discussions and readings. It is also a common practice to divide tasks among team members during group projects, such that the person who is creative is assigned to do the slide presentation and the person who is most articulate will be the presenter.
I believe that every organization hires their employees based on what they “specialize” in or what they are really good at. But there’s this new thing they call “hyperspecialization” which is doing bits and pieces of a single job. Read the rest of this entry »
